| Lamp | Words or phrases which appear on various Callista Forms to alert users to important information. The most common is the QUERY lamp, which needs to be visible before Query data can be input. Other lamps indicate if a student is subject to an Encumbrance, or give details of applicable Load Calendars, etc.

| Major | The major field of study in a degree program. A sequence and/or total points value of units prescribed by faculty and/or course rules. Within Callista SMS, handled as a Unit Set. |
| Major Exemption Institution | The institution where a student completed the majority of studies for which Advanced Standing is being approved. |

| Program | A prescribed course of study as detailed in the rules governing a course. A student may complete a program and a major. Students who complete a specialsied program receive a 'named' degree. For example, undertaking a Bachelor of Science in the specialised program of Genetics will result in the award of a BSc (Genetics). This option currently exists only for courses within the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences and the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. |
| Progression Decision Status | When a progression outcome is added to a Student Course Attempt, this indicates the current status of the decision in relation to this outcome. One of the following may be used: PENDING - A recommended outcome requiring approval or waiving. The outcome cannot be applied until approved. |
| Progression Status | The status indicates the current standing of a Student Course Attempt in relation to Progression. The failure of Progression Rules and the subsequent decision status of resulting outcomes trigger the System updating of the status. GOODSTAND - No progression outcomes are currently pending or active. PROBATION - A probationary outcome has been approved. |

| Rules | There are various kinds of rules. The Callista system has the ability to enter and check rules. For instance, Validation Rules check that students wishing to enrol in a particular unit have complete all necessary prerequisites and/or co-requisite units. Progression Rules monitor students' academic progress through a course, and may be used to apply Progression Outcomes (sanctions). Completion rules identify when a student has completed the requirements for a particular course. Rules within Callista are drawn from the University's General and Faculty Rules. |
